February 2002 Special Event:
Tour of Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center
by Carol Barth
A guided tour has been arranged for AMSF members on Sunday, February 10, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. of the brand new state-of-the-art Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland. This almost 320,000 square foot facility on 17 acres of land houses six theaters with a seating capacity from 100 to 1,100, the School of Music, the Departments of Theater and Dance, the Performance Arts library, and the International Piano Archives at Maryland. The piano archives houses a computerized Bosendorfer 290SE Reproducing Piano, one of only 13 in the world, and one of the largest collections of piano scores, commercial piano recordings, and books about pianos and pianists.
To reserve a space for this tour, and get directions, please e-mail or call Carol Barth. Also, let Carol know if you are interested in obtaining a copy of the article, "Writing for the Bosendorfer 290SE Reproducing Piano," by Alan Frederick Shockley.
