Hello!

Before some of you take off for the summer, I have a few announcements to note.

New Board Member

I am happy to announce our new Secretary and Board Member, Bruce Kuhlik. You can read more about Bruce on page 2 of this issue.

2nd Annual Conference

Please mark your calendars for our second annual conference on Sunday, August 25, 1–5 p.m., at Jordan Kitts in Fairfax, VA. DUO MUNDI, the team composed of George Lopez and Gulimina Mahamuti, will discuss French and Russian music history, adding spice to their presentation by playing piano solos, duets, and duos.

We are fortunate to have George Lopez and Gulimina Mahamuti, world-class pianists who love to teach and perform. Last year they stimulated our minds and mesmerized us with pulsating acrobatic duets. I can honestly say I had never seen and heard such creative sounds emanating from the piano. The afternoon went by too fast! So, if you are a learner, this event is not to be missed!

Annual Party

Our Annual Party and Meeting will be on Sunday, September 15, 2-5 p.m. Church of the Annunciation, D.C. This is the first year we secured and announced the date of this event at the beginning of this year. We hope you marked your calendars then. If not, please do so now. We would love for you to be there.

Special Events are Member Benefits

Special Events are key member benefits. They are for members only. We hold several each year and encourage you to attend as many as you want. They are educational and inspirational. If you have friends who want to attend our special events, please have them sign up for membership. We invite you to check our website to get an idea of the types of educational events we have had in recent years. If you enjoy learning, they alone are well worth the minimal membership fee.

Encore Recitals

The Encore Recital Series is our showcase. As such, we encourage those who play at mature levels to perform at these recitals. The series is open to all members and the public as audiences.

AMSF has several recital series, master classes, and Community Outreach opportunities that cater to different instruments, groups of instruments, types of music and playing levels. We encourage those who play at less mature levels to perform at recital series that align with their levels and are more beneficial to enhancing their growth as musicians.

Renewal Period

June marks the start of our annual renewal period, so please take a few minutes to fill out the renewal form (on the last page of this issue) and pay the fee online or by check. The renewal period ends in September.

This summer and always, take advantage of the AMSF opportunities to play, learn and have fun. That is what your membership is for!
