On a beautiful spring afternoon, three performers met at the home of Randy Burd located in Potomac, Maryland. We had a small group, but we had a great time.
Randy played the Beethoven Sonata Op. 2, No. 1 in F minor (all 4 movements) from memory. Then Judith played both movements of Beethoven Sonata Op. 78 in F# major, also from memory. The recital ended with Kuo-Wei playing the 3rd and 4th movements of Bortkiewicz Sonata written in 1942. Everyone gave a fine performance, and the atmosphere was relaxing and friendly. Afterwards we shared lots of ideas in learning various sonata works, as it is quite a different process and experience from learning single pieces.
Special thanks to Randy for hosting at his beautiful home, and welcome Randy to AMSF again. The Sonata recital series is designed for performances of single or multi-movement works. It is open for soloists and chamber groups. Players at all levels are highly encouraged to participate. While Sonata recitals are held at a member’s home, non-playing audience members are more than welcome to attend.
