It was a huge privilege for AMSF to have Dr. John O’Conor, as guest speaker and presenter, at our March Special Event. There are no words to describe the experience of having such a master walked us through Beethoven’s 32 sonatas, giving a us a background of Beethoven — the man — and events surrounding various pieces, pointers on how to play challenging passages, and closing us out with the 1st movement of Beethoven’s Pathetique. Most of us know Beethoven as an intense and passionate man who composed some of his best pieces during the second half of his life, when he was hard of hearing and completely deaf. His intensity comes out in many of his pieces. I was surprised to learn that Beethoven had quite a sense of humor, and that, too, was also depicted in his music!
To those who were there, thank you for coming! To those who were not, we missed you, and you missed a wonderful educational opportunity!
